Biography 250 words

Cindy is a storyteller, singer and performer from Nova Scotia with family roots in Prince Edward Island. She has been telling stories to audiences of all ages for over forty years. Cindy likes to include songs or rhymes in her performances and has been known to add musical surprises in her stories.

For thirty-two years, Cindy was a program planner for youth at Halifax Public Libraries. She developed many programs including an oralcy and literacy based program called Shake, Rattle and Read for pre-readers and their parents. She developed an educational entertainment business called StorySong Express. Cindy performed musical, puppetry and storytelling programs aimed at preschoolers and school-aged children. She also presented many workshops to teachers, librarians and early childhood educators.

There are so many performances and stories in Cindy’s repertoire that it is difficult to list them all. She enjoys telling in festivals and conferences, concerts and open mic’s, schools and preschools, seniors centres and community centres, libraries and museums. She can be flexible and versatile as she once performed in a Yert, and on the back of a flat-bed tractor trailer!

Cindy has hosted programs and given workshops and performances for the following organizations where she is also a proud member: Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada, Storytellers Circle of Halifax, Helen Creighton Folklore Society, Dartmouth Heritage Museum, Cole Harbour Farm Heritage Museum, and the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia. In 2005, Cindy was storyteller on tour for the Canadian Children’s Book Centre and Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada.

She began her performance career at Halifax Public Libraries and expanded to festivals, conferences and special events. She has been performing for over forty years across Canada and in the USA. She has performed internationally online. Cindy has hosted programs and given workshops and performances for the following organizations where she is also a member: Storytellers Circle of Halifax, Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society, Dartmouth Heritage Museum, Helen Creighton Folklore Society, Storytellers of Canada/ Conteurs du Canada and Writers Federation of Nova Scotia.

Cindy is storyteller, singer, and performer from Nova Scotia with family roots in Prince Edward Island. A long time member of the storytelling community, Cindy offers workshops on storytelling in general, community or historical stories, oral history and folklore, folksongs and ballads. Cindy’s sense of fun and encouragement in her workshops and performances, aim to provide delightful learning and listening experiences to audiences of all ages. She is a volunteer for 6 non-profit organizations and a proud member of the Storytellers Circle of Halifax, Helen Creighton Folklore Society and Storytellers of Canada – Conteurs du Canada.

Biography for Helen Creighton or Folklore Workshops

Cindy is storyteller, singer, and performer from Nova Scotia with family roots in Prince Edward Island. She had been performing for over forty years. A long time member of the Helen Creighton Folklore Society, Cindy has a special interest in the works of folklorist, Dr Creighton, and offers workshops and performances on community or historical stories, oral history and folklore, folksongs and ballads. Cindy often likes to include songs or ballads in her storytelling performances and has been known to add musical surprises within her stories. Cindy’s sense of fun and encouragement in her workshops and performances, aim to provide delightful learning and listening experiences to audiences of all ages.

Biography for Hosting

Cindy Campbell-Stone is a storyteller who has presented and hosted at many events, concerts, festivals and conferences.  For ten years, she co-hosted an open mic event, twice a month, for the Helen Creighton Folklore Society, called WTF: What the Folk! She has hosted or chaired online events including the recent World Storytelling Day Concert for the Storytellers Circle of Halifax and an Online Listening Party for Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs due Canada. Cindy has coached others in hosting for Word On The Street, Halifax. While hosting, she is interested and attentive and can encourage discussion or participation as needed.

Biography for Readings

Cindy has been a life-long reader and especially likes to read out loud. She started reading out loud many years ago at St Mary’s University”s program Reading for the Blind. She developed her out loud reading skills by reading to children while working at Halifax Public Libraries for over thirty years. Cindy has done readings at the Dartmouth Book Exchange, the Writer’s Federation of Nova Scotia and has done online readings of Bluenose Ghosts by Helen Creighton.
